How many of you are familiar with the concept of the mind-body connection when it comes to health? Most of you will probably agree that positive thinking works in other aspects of life, but what about health? Do you see the connection between a happy, healthy attitude and health?
Metaphysically speaking, what is physical health? Our body and its healthy, or sick, physical state is the visible picture of our sense of self. Our sense of who we think we are. The body expresses our beliefs about sickness and health, all beliefs which we accumulated from early childhood on. Our mothers told us “Don’t go out in the rain or you will catch a cold” or, as mine did: “When the weather changes I get a migraine”. What about “I can feel the weather in my bones”. Even worse: “Breast cancer runs in my family”, it’s genetic, I inherited heart disease from my father, and so on. The beliefs are many. The advertising media tells us that we should take all of those pills or creams, but in the same breath they tell us the unhealthy side effects we might experience when we take them. The medical industry is one of the biggest businesses in the United States, and certainly all over the world.
To make it worse, we have a name for every symptom, hoping that by knowing “what” it is, we can find a cure. However, this is making it into something larger and giving it means, rather than just knowing that it is only the visible manifestation of uneasy or dis-easy thinking; mental uneasiness.
You can trust me when I say, that each and every one of us has a different set of beliefs when it comes down to health.
Many people are not even aware of their power to make themselves sick, or to heal themselves. The ideas that you can make yourself sick through mental means alone will probably make some of you cringe. It will fill you with fear, or you will immediately deny it. But it is a fact.
See, our body is not a material thing. It is not what we really “are”, it’s only what we think we are – see the difference? We took on a body on this plane to have an ID. People in this world need to see us and touch us. We have accepted our bodies as solid. We slap it and we feel pain. We burn it and we feel even worse pain. But this is only because we are convinced that the body is solid. But it is not. It is energy. We are spirit.
Knowing that the mind leaves its visible imprint on the body, we must cease thinking imperfect thoughts and correct our habits and mental moods. We must always have in front of us a perfect image of our self and of what we want to experience. We have to know and accept the complete control that mind has over the body, as many Metaphysicians have pointed out in the past.
So let us change our dis-easy thinking to a harmonious one. Well-being is a harmonious mental state: a state of bliss, good feelings, loving feelings, clean living, and the development of a well-balanced character. Good is a mental quality, a sense of harmony. It is only our lack of understanding that sends us to the doctor, to the divorce court, or the bankruptcy court. The Law works perfectly at all times, we just have to learn how to flow with it rather than standing in our own way.
Wishing you much health!
