My Holiday Wish for You: Take Time for Yourself by ULRIKE

This is the Season to be Jolly – but are we? The Holidays are here again and just like last year, and the years before, we are in the midst of preparing the family festivities, we are out and about shopping for our loved ones, we are volunteering at various shelters and supporting charities, we are running last minute errands, and of course we are decorating and baking those favorite cookies. This should be a wonderfully exhilarating and loving time. However, we get lost in too much running around, too much worrying about getting things done on time, too much expectations from others and ourselves, too much food and drink, too much of everything. The remedy is clear:

Stop. Think. Rejuvenate.

Meditation, taking the time daily to spend in quiet contemplation, is not everyone’s cup of tea. However, quiet time is essential to a healthy mind and our well-being. Time spent with yourself and your focused thought, instead of being scattered or absentminded, is part of the cure for the “too-much-syndrome”. Mediation doesn’t mean we have to be an expert in this art of self-realization. Even a few focused breaths, taken deeply and slowly, can do the trick. Bringing the mind to a calm state of being is essential to our well-being and therefore we must continue to establish a sense of ease and self-confidence.

In order to think clearly with a clam mind, and to be happy, we have to make choices. So let us choose wisely and lovingly. Practice softening your thoughts about the daily grind, your kids, chores, and work, and allow your thoughts to be natural and relaxed. Not forcing yourself is what is needed, especially at this time of the year. Remember, all is already good and perfect; and therefore we can leave those negative expectations behind!

Continue to love life and face the knowledge that since we are individuals, living in our specific worlds, it is entirely up to us how our life shapes up, or not. It is up to us to make this a Blessed Season.

Have a Happy Holiday!
