Morning Thoughts: What can we take with us to the next life?

As we mature (yes, I avoided saying ‘getting older’), the fear of having missed out in life, trying to finish the ‘bucket list’, fear of going before our time, fear of old age and decay with the end of an unavoidable departure from this plane - all of this begs the question: what can we really take with us to the next life? Is there a need for anything?

Is the next life just a state of bliss, a party, or what? Well, we don’t rightly know, do we?

I believe, and maybe you do too, that life doesn’t end once we pass over the great pond. Life lives, but it undeniably will be transformed, and certainly from this physical experience into a mental and spiritual one.

After this life-stage, when we are stripped of all material goods, it appears that we can only take our values, morals, our good character, and the knowledge of truth we have unfolded at the time of our passing or transition to the next dimension, with us. Our earthly belongings will be nothing more than a dream.

All so-called material things are reflections of the mind’s substance. They are mental in nature and therefore will go back to their native nothingness once we move on into the next realm of being. Dust to dust.

Hence, it is of utmost importance to work on our spiritual unfoldment, our contributions to this world, our goodness and helpfulness to humankind, our love for all living beings - not only work for monetary gains, and our material, physical lives. All of this, of course, should be enjoyed while here, but only the actual sense of enjoyment will be with us when we depart.

In this lifetime, our culture wants everything right now, instant gratification. There is no patience in this kind of thinking. However, the spiritual process is not instant. It requires diligent loving thought and right reason. It is an ongoing, evolving process with many ups and downs – and we must let God, the Universe, the Almighty intelligent power, know that we are happy to be alive and grateful for everything we have.

With Love, ULRIKE
