God is in the eyes of the beholder (Excerpt from “Forever…and 265 Days”)

In my networking efforts I connected with a group of writers yesterday. One of my goals for 2012 is to meet new people. I want to be more open to fresh connections. I’m one of those people who don’t need a lot of friends. I have a few amazing ones and that is sufficient. However, I realize meeting new people who have common interests will be inspirational and infuse me with fresh ideas. Familiarity sometimes breeds stagnation.

I tend to be a hermit. I sometimes don’t go out for days. Don’t get me wrong, I’m outdoors most of the time. I created a garden, outdoor living space for reading and writing, large open windows to let the sunlight flow in, a music room, and wide open patio doors making me feel that the inside of the house is connected with nature at all times.

I have two fountains that are regularly frequented by the most colorful birds, plants, flowers, and my home grown vegetables are a staple that brings me continuous joy.

What I mean by “not going out” is I rarely socialize in groups, go to movies, and hang out in the mall or clubs. I only leave the house when I have a work commitment for my consulting business or necessary errands to run. I have had my years and years of parties, people, and fun. I was an event producer for a major Hollywood studio for nearly twenty years with an average of 300 events per year. Enough!

So going forward, meeting new people will be a very selective process and the group of authors I met online was delightful. The conversation about viral marketing quickly became helpful and supportive.

One of the authors, to my surprise, was a pastor from Northern California. He befriended my Facebook page and I thought about how I would answer him if he, being a man of God, would ask me:

“What is your idea of God and what does God mean to you?”

“God is Universal power, the Almighty substance that sustains all life. I am part of this substance called Consciousness. I can think, and thinking is the conscious activity of this substance led by God’s urge of expression.

God is Wisdom. So I, being part of this Wisdom, have to choose wisely as to what I think. It is my duty!

God is good. So I have to be and act of good to live up to God’s standards. It is my duty!

God is Intelligence. So I, being part of this Intelligence, have to act intelligently and in accordance to the truth. It is my duty!”

Yes, this is how I would answer his question.

Inspiration, what does it mean to me

Every day, in this earthly life, there are ups and downs, deep emotional valleys and steep mountains to overcome. We have not yet learned to travel the straight and narrow road of Understanding. We still coast and veer off the path we travel frequently. A sudden change of attitude or a jump back into a dark habitual mood, always deters us from moving toward the light. How much easier does it seem to reach back to the old and outgrown thought habits of the past?

But it is this light, or moment of ‘seeing with the mental eye’, that inspires us to keep moving and to get back on the road to eternal bliss - again and again. This glimpse of the Truth that all is good and all is mental, and that we are part of this Universal goodness with its wonderful effects, is what keeps us going. We instinctively know the Truth when we keep our minds open to all possibilities.

Inspiration comes in many forms. A wonderful reminder of a past experience, a certain smell reminding us of a pleasant encounter, the sound of a song that triggers loving feelings, looking at nature and its wondrous bounty, or the birth of a baby are just a few examples of new hope and a fresh want for living. A new desire for a better tomorrow is born every second and readily available to us.

Indeed, desire is the starting point of all achievement, but most of all it is the starting point of imagination and the active spark or beginning of all creation. Desire is a spark in our consciousness pressing for expression. Life is unfolding itself. Life always presses for manifestation and progress. It is an ever-changing ongoing process. Like water, life flows.

With this in mind let us make sure that our motivation is pure, and comes from within the chambers of our loving heart. The Universe with its vast ocean of pure possibilities is ready and willing to provide, and we shall draw from this unlimited Universal gift.

Knowing that God is close and ever-present is all the daily inspiration I need to keep moving forward. Seeing the sunrise in the early morning hours reminds me that I have another chance to change my course; and I will travel happily toward my ultimate goal, which is perfect Understanding of the Allness of Good.
