The power of humility...

Lately, I’ve given a lot of thought to the word “humility”. At first glance the word “humility” implies meekness or weakness, but let us explore the meaning of the word more deeply – I’m quite certain that the opposite is true.

The different dictionaries I researched state that “humility” is a modest or low view of one's own importance, an unassertiveness, or a lack of pride.

Merriam-Webster, the mostly used dictionary, calls “humility” freedom from pride or arrogance – ah! Now we’re getting somewhere!

In Wikipedia, we read: Humility is the quality of being humble. In a religious context, this can mean a recognition of self in relation to God or deities, and submission to said deity as a member of that religion. Outside of a religious context, humility is defined as the self-restraint from excessive vanity, and can possess moral and/or ethical dimensions. Humility, in various interpretations, is widely seen as a virtue in many religious and philosophical traditions, often in contrast to narcissism, hubris and other forms of pride. The term "humility" comes from the Latin word humilitas, a noun related to the adjective humilis, which may be translated as "humble", but also as "grounded", or "from the earth".

So, from this new perspective, the word “humility” means to be free of vanity, arrogance, narcistic tendencies, and the likes, but instead heaving a healthy sense of being grounded. Therefore, we must take a good look at our general demeanor and transform our ego image, what we thought was power, into humility – the true power.

We pride ourselves when we appear strong, but our ability to be humble and draw from this inner strength is really what counts. The outer perception of strength will fade away when life seemingly crumbles and all earthly, ego appearances disappear any time disaster strikes. Then it is even more important to draw from our inner strength; this knowledge of who we really are.

We can achieve all earthly blessings—a lovely home, a great family, the perfect job—and still gain an understanding of what our true power consists of, including spiritual knowledge. Eventually, however, the longing for material riches will subside. The ego will disappear into its native nothingness. Only our sense of comfort will remain, and even this sense of comfort will have evolved to a higher level of understanding. At this point in our unfoldment, our sense of humility will help us to stay on course, and our focus will be only on gaining more understanding of Universal Truth, spiritual awareness, God.

Are you hungry for more spiritual food?

Let me ask you: Are you hungry for more spiritual food? Do you feel the urge to connect with nature? Are you craving a more calm and serene life, a life filled with joy and peace?

Sadly, most days we are content with the daily fast-food we are providing for ourselves. We gobble up all of the negativity provided wherever we go. We are not diligent in discriminating between right and wrong.

Let us start being gourmet diners and feast from the delicacies of true Spirit, Truth, only. This truth-feast is already waiting for each and every one of us, ready to be served. However, we must sit down at the table of righteousness and take in all the good presented to us.

Remember, our minds have the capacity to reason and feel; both have to be in sync in order to produce a positive experience. Therefore, we must reason about what is right and good and feel this goodness deeply. Next, examine the question “How do I feel today” honestly, because right feeling, or love, is the mother of all creation.

Make no mistake: there is only one mind. The conscious mind is your awareness that thinks, reasons, and understands. Your subconscious mind is the storehouse of all your mental impressions, including your memory. They are one mind with two functions. Once we understand this fact, we can use it to better our daily experiences.

Bon Appetit!

Choices

Knowingly or not, we constantly make choices. We say, ‘I don’t know what choice to make.’ But even doing nothing, or not acting on something we should be doing, is a choice. Feeling good is a choice. Being miserable is a choice. I can go on and on…Isn’t it time to make the right choices? Healthy choices? Loving choices? Choices which are good for all concerned?

We must be of one mind and good purpose. We must be single-minded. We cannot switch constantly between one thing and another, being wishy-washy all the time. Choices are so important and doubting our decisions and straying off our path will get us nowhere.

Single-mindedness is the roadmap to success. It implies courage, focus, and the conviction that we are powerful within ourselves. It shows that we know what we want. The choice is ours. Therefore, let us be even-minded, calm, and focused – and look at things from a distance, like an observer, rather than an emotionally attached person. It will put our experience in perspective. It will make our choices more in line with the Truth and the Truth will set us free.

Sowing the Seeds of Peace

When talking about peace I am not just speaking about world peace, I am speaking about the peace within. In order to contribute to the grand vision of world peace we have to find our individual inner harmony first.

We have to know the following primary facts: Life in itself is intelligent, and we, as part of this intelligence, are composed of this primal substance. We are complete within ourselves. However, we have allowed ‘reacting’ to outer circumstances rather than acting rightly about them, and therefore have lost this natural peaceful demeanor. The fight is not outside of us, it is within.

Most people confuse self-knowledge with knowledge. Humankind, and their egos, assume that being knowledgeable means to know yourself. But they only act from their ego-consciousness and do not know themselves at all.

The ego is a peace-disturber, a troublemaker. It wants more and more, it doesn’t stop or find satisfaction. The inherent and characteristic goal of unfoldment and growth, striving to expand, is fully misunderstood by the ego-mind, as it sees this task as an accumulation of material riches and status, worldly powers you might say. However, the spiritual mind knows that the unfoldment of self consists of the humble awakening of Truth within. We have to expand our minds beyond our five senses; to truly ‘sense’ is to go beyond your accustomed limited perception. Mind always seeks to know and to expand its awareness.

“In the last analysis, life is found to be nothing but sense”, is stated by one of the great metaphysicians William W. Walter in the early 1900’s. Life, boiled down, hidden behind the veil of all perception, leaves a purely mental essence. Truth is mental.

Your work is to observe this inner sensing that is going on at all times. Do you see yourself as the dynamic, powerful, yet peaceful Soul you are? Or do you see yourself as struggling, confused, and always in a hectic state? Where is your inner peace?

Once we have mastered this inner harmony we can start sowing the seeds to include our surroundings and in the end, once we have found this stillness and calm within, it will naturally and effortlessly contribute to a grander picture. It will spread easily, and flow with the natural current of the Universe. It will certainly contribute to a better life and manifest into world peace, as we are part of Collective Consciousness, which is connected to the All-mighty Universal Source.
