The want for more...

When we see people always wanting more and more ‘things’ and nothing is ever good enough we can surely tell that there is a lack of something within their Soul.

A few years ago, I started to explore the “I want more” syndrome. Obviously, ‘wanting more and more’ shows a fear of lack. This fear of not having enough, or being able to lose your possessions, a wrong sense of materialism and what it means to you, a ‘doomsday is just around the corner’ attitude all contribute to wanting more. It’s like a security blanket; you can hide behind your possessions.

However, in reality, only the mental sense of abundance can save you and me, and everyone, from lack. It’s our mental sense that governs our lives, and our thoughts of wealth will bring fortitude into our experiences. Abundance is a mental state not a material one.

On the extreme side, hoarding, or the amassing of goods, is a lack of knowing that the Universe is abundant, and that we are part of this abundance. What makes a person so desperate that they hold on to everything including what most of us call trash? Studies have shown that this type of behavior is prevalent in people over the age of 40 and more so in men than in woman. It also shows that there is a connection to childhood abuse; proving traumatic events are positively correlated with the severity of hoarding. Fear. The amassing of possessions, even if of no value, masks a greater problem of emotional imbalance. A hiding behind the mountains of trash, so to speak. It surely needs professional help and guidance.

Again, fear of not having, and clinging on to material possessions as the symbol of “having” shows that we believe in the possibility of ‘lack’. At the end we must let go of material things, they mean nothing in the vast ocean of Universal Consciousness. And for all who have the need to get more materials goods, I say: Focus on your abundant and good thoughts, your mental plenty, and all things will be added onto to you!

The common belief in aging – how can we come to grips with this phenomenon?

When birthdays come around I think most of us reflect on the years past. Well, at least I know I do. It’s actually a time in my life when a few dark clouds come up on my mental horizon (yes, it happens to me too) and I have to pull myself out of the human belief cesspool.

What makes this ‘getting older’ so scary? Where does the fear come from? Is it the fear of death? Is it the fear of sickness and decay as is impressed upon us every minute of the day? Just watch the commercials and the daily suffering we see everywhere. Does it have to be like this? Do we have the power to change it, at least in our experience?

We are all in this together. We are born into a so-called material world with its expression of: birth – youth – adulthood, and then, old age, death. There is seemingly no way out. But is there? Let’s explore for a moment.

The experience of aging only reflects our wrong sense of the ‘passing of time’. Instead of fearing the inevitable, we need to focus on mature, yet youthful, thinking now. We have to replace the ‘old’ outgrown thoughts with fresh, vivacious, and inspired ones. Healthy thoughts are natural, unhealthy and sick thoughts are unnatural. We need to remember that we are wiser and more capable now than we were in our younger years. We are useful, strong, and in our prime. We are vital members of our communities. Even in our older years we can be of great value if we only use our given talents to enrich someone else’s life.

So, let’s live in the now, think in the now, and know that we are looking at a fulfilled and mature state of mind when looking at ourselves. We must feel this truth deep down in our hearts, so we can manifest a healthy and rich life. Let us enjoy ourselves, instead of fretting about getting ‘older’. And let us always remember how blessed we are!

Recognizing Stress

We all experience stressful situations at times. Sometimes we are aware of it and sometimes we are not; just moving along with your daily responsibilities, not watching out for the subtle signs our body is telling us. But we must be more aware and recognize what stress does to us if we are not managing it properly.

We can all relate to this dis-easiness, called stress, and therefore it will be helpful to you when making the connection between habitual thinking and the unhealthy effects on the body.

Many of the stress symptoms start slowly, maybe with headaches or nervousness, followed by migraines or a nervous breakdown, maybe an upset stomach or a cold that doesn't want to go away, leading into more and more severe illnesses when not addressed. Now we can swallow every pill there is and it will temporarily relive the pain, but what happens afterwards?

We have to go to the root of the problem. You have to address the real issue. Don’t just take medications and try all the new ‘cures,’ because they will be outdated in a month or so. Diet products etc. work one day and not the other, because you are not fixing the real underlying issues in your stressful dispositions.

Here is a great little story I found online, and I frequently use as an example in my workshops, which I want to share with you:

A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: “How heavy is this glass of water?” Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.”

She continued, “The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything.” Remember to put the glass down!

I’m urging you to ask yourself: who is holding this glass? Who decides when to put it down, or not? This is a fantastic example of how stress works when you allow it to take over your day.
